From Global Marketing Professional to High Profile Agent: Vangelis Katsaitis on his Passion for Property

Where others see houses, I see people

For the Managing Director of Excellence Property Specialists Vangelis Katsaitis, luxury real estate is not a job, it’s a passion. Talking to the high profile agent, he says the industry is about listening and empathising with a person’s situation so he can become ‘part of the solution’.

I never see real estate as a job. A good real estate agent’s duty is not just to sell houses but to serve people’s goals and needs through property.

I never compare myself to anyone else and I never feel that I have “won” or “lost” a listing or a sale.

Real estate is not about the agents’ achievements and egos but about the buyers’ and sellers’ lives.

For the former global marketing professional, moving into a rewarding luxury real estate career was a neat progression.

Working for some of the biggest international brands including Mercedes Benz, Coca-Cola and Berry Bros. & Rudd, Katsaitis gained invaluable experience in the world of luxury markets.

These skills and background proved to be very useful in my luxury real estate career later on as high net worth consumers do not buy houses, cars or watches but experiences and recognition.

While for most agents selling close to A$70 million worth of property in City Beach over 12 months is a cause for celebration, for Katsaitis the real achievement comes from meeting a seller’s requirements and expectations.

For me, the number of houses I have sold or the value of my sales are not important because they don’t show what I have achieved for my vendors, but for myself.

One of his personal highlights, maintaining the highest median selling price in City Beach for many years, is a reflection of his ambitions to always seek the best outcomes for his clients.

I am proud of keeping the highest median selling price in my suburb, year after year. This achievement is not a trophy for me but for those who have entrusted me with the sale of their properties.

Nowadays thanks to technology, buyers can do their own homework on a potential property. This easy access to information has put an emphasis on the honesty and integrity of luxury agents and their ability to communicate.

Thriving in an industry “where there are no secrets,” it’s Katsaitis’ transparency and openness that he says sets him apart from agents who put their own goals first.

His most important piece of advice – “replace the word ‘property’ with the word ‘people’” – shows just how much Katsaitis values the connection he builds with his clients.

While a fruitful career in many different countries gives Katsaitis his unique cosmopolitan outlook, it’s what the future has in store that keeps the agent enthusiastic.

I am getting excited by living in the future instead of the past, embracing change, establishing new relationships of trust and delivering more and more every day.

Surrounded by his supportive family, Katsaitis’s future is firmly set on property.

It’s his unwavering passion for real estate that continues to drive his career in the industry and his former stint as President of the Rotary Club of Perth is igniting an interest in expanding his philanthropy efforts.

What I know for sure is that I will stay in real estate… it gives me energy and purpose.

Also, I want to commit a greater part of my life to philanthropy – a side of myself that developed through the Rotary Club of Perth which I chaired as President and member of the Board.
